The NASDU GP Level 2 course is the first stepping stone for all people interested in becoming a security dog handler. All learners will be teamed with a GP dog, either owned or provided, by way of intended approval as a security dog and handler team. Upon gaining the team certification all learners will be approved to British Standards with their dog, any new dogs owned by the learner should undertake an annual assessment to become certified.

All newly qualified security dog and handler teams will be required to attend monthly training sessions and an annual assessment with a NASDU approved instructor in order to maintain British Standards.

All General Purpose Security Dog Handlers should have a understanding of codes of practice, the law in relation to dogs, selecting the correct dog, health and safety and practical training techniques in order to be a competent dog handler – the NASDU GP Level 2 course will enable the GP Handler to achieve this.
